Short history of Veloturk

After months of planning and work, we launched Veloturk project yesterday. It is a non profit social responsibility project. We will take part in amateur road bike races this year in Europe and we aim to distribute 1000 bikes for 1000 kids in the poor regions of Turkey. Our detailed financial structure will be made public later. There is a chance that the number of bikes distributed might increase.

Who is “we”?

Veloturk core team includes Sarper Günsal, cycling co-commentator for Eurosport Turkey, Arda Türkmen, Chef owner of Leblon and Forneria restaurants in İstanbul and host of his own TV show Arda’s Kitchen, Okan Can Yantır, Editor in Chief of GQ Turkey magazine, Aydın Diricanlı, cycling enthusiast and an IT Manager and myself.

How?

We had been riding a lot prior to summer and during the summer and we thought “why don’t we start a team and build a social project around it?” The original idea came from Arda Türkmen and Okan Can Yantır. We supported the idea immediately. We came up with the basic plan and and started working on headlines. We all had extra weight, so getting fitter was important. We started on diets and crossfit sessions.

Target

We all have busy schedules in our professional life. Obviously, we are not professional cyclists and aware of our capabilities on bike. Our training time is limited. Getting as many as bikes for children in poor regions is our top priority.

You will soon be able to find all details about our project in our official website. For now, you can follow us on twitter or on facebook to get informed.
